Several months ago, I set aside a great photo of some gorgeous gilded leather coasters. I was thrilled about them- they were retailing for about eighty dollars and were stunning, but I was pretty sure that I had every opportunity to make them on my own to create something homemade and lovely. The story takes a turn here because by the time I actually bought all the necessary supplies, I couldn’t FIND the darn photo. So I set out on my own, got a little creative, and came up with this sweet coaster set. It’s a PERFECT Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving hostess gift (hint, hint) that anyone would love to receive!
To get started, you’ll need:
- four leather rounds (mine are 3 1/4 inches)
- small paintbrush
- Liquid Leaf in Classic Gold (or your favorite shade)
The steps here are a bit obvious, but worth stating.
Using the small paintbrush, liberally apply the leafing fluid to the raw edge of the leather rounds. Make sure that you’re covering the edge well and getting into every nook and cranny, but that you aren’t dripping on to the top of the round.
Once you’ve gilded the entire edge, lay the round down carefully on scrap paper. The leafing fluid dries very quickly, but you don’t want to get anything smudged or smeared. Ensure that if any of the Liquid Leaf gets on your fingers you wipe it off so that you don’t transfer it to the other leather rounds.
Let dry for about one hour. Once dry, use a bit of twine to wrap up the coasters in a bundle.
To tie the coaster set to a 4 Pack of tasty Izze Sparkling Juice, I added an extra loop and a tag for a super sweet presentation.
Look how shiny these babies are!
While you’re at it, make a bunch for yourself. These look so lovely with water or wine glasses for a festive table setting!
Since Izze inspired this Friendsgiving project, I should definitely tell you about the fun Instagram quiz they launched! Head over to the IZZE Friendgiving Adventure to find out your Friendsgiving style! I followed the tags through each question and discovered that I’m all about Home Away From Home Cooked- which style are you?
(I also really loved the gorgeous recipes that Izze added in honor of Friendsgiving on their Friendsday page– look at those drinks! Yum, yum!)
Thank you to Izze for sponsoring this post!
