Yes! That’s right! The hubby and I going to French Polynesia! We’ll be there for almost TWO WEEKS. We’re island hopping from Tahiti, then to its sister island of Mo’orea, and on to Bora Bora for a few nights in one of those overwater bungalows. We’re both so excited, that we wake up each morning and count down the days. It made me think that we need to count down to more things! Birthdays, holidays, trips and visitors.
There are so many ways you can customize this chalkboard countdown magnet for your own taste! Print or draw your own numbers, stencil on the lettering, use chalkboard paint, or use a patterned background. I’ll tell you how to make the version that I made, just to make it simpler.
I found some great supplies at one of my favorite craft stores here in Japan (Tokyo Hands). I was able to find a pretty copper nail, some leather letters and hang tags with vintage-looking numbers printed on them from 1 – 100. I used a chalkboard sticker and cut it down to the size I wanted, then used a metallic permanent market to create a border. You certainly don’t need those exact supplies, but I love the way they came together for my countdown magnet.
What you’ll need:
A finished, stained piece of wood
Strong magnets
Super glue
Hang tags with numbers
Nail
Hammer
Letter stickers or cutouts
Chalkboard sticker
Chalk
What to do:
1. Lay out the design the way you want it. Be planful, because once you lay down the stickers they will be hard to move.
2. Apply the lettering and chalkboard and hammer in the nail.
3. Superglue the magnets to the back of the wood.
4. Write in chalk on the chalkboard whatever you’re excited about.
5. Hang your numbers and start the countdown!
Our front door is made of metal (for some reason) and I hung mine next to my magnetic bud vase. It’s a reminder to get excited every time we leave the house!
Let me know if you have any travel suggestions for French Polynesia; I’m especially looking for cooking classes for authentic Polynesian food.

I’m going to need you to update this to “WE MOVE HOME” immediately following your trip, thanks. 🙂
