I love fall floral arrangements because they give me a chance to explore options I wouldn’t otherwise consider, like fall leaves or stalks of wheat. Summer arrangements are colorful and bright. Winter is full of pine and berries, with lots of green, white and red. Spring brings pastels and bright colors again. But fall lets us play with darker colors, like brown and deep purples or burgandies. These allow a pop color, like yellow or orange, to really impact your arrangement.
How to Design a Fall Floral Arrangement
1. Let something inspire you! I saw these feathery grasses in the supermarket and couldn’t walk away empty-handed.
2. Choose other pieces that complement your inspiration and are in a similar color family. Look for a variety of textures, shapes and sizes.
3. Find a pop color that makes your arrangement stand out. Great fall colors are yellow, orange, deep red, deep purple and cream. Don’t be afraid to experiment with produce such as apples, pomegranates, nuts, berries and pumpkins. Feathers can also add an interesting touch when used tastefully.
4. Pick a vessel that accommodates your choices. Do you need a tall and slender vase? Or maybe a short, wide bowl would work best? What about a pumpkin or a basket?
5. Arrange your pieces in the vase/vessel. Do you need a frog or floral foam? Maybe floral tape?
6. Decide if your vase/vessel needs some accessories. I added a strip of fabric and some twine to make mine more visually interesting. You can use ribbon or string, wrapping paper, washi tape, doilies, lace, vintage jewelry . . . the possibilities are endless!
