A few weeks ago, we shared a post for Crispy Herbed Chicken Fingers made with Foster Farms Organic Chicken, available locally in the Bay Area. Not only was the recipe delicious, but we wanted to share a little bit more about why we loved working with Foster Farms and what we learned about organic chicken in general!
First, let’s chat about what the term “organic” means when you’re referring to chicken. Chicken that is organic is free-range, fed organic vegetarian feed, and has never been treated with steroids, hormones or antibiotics. This clearly makes for a more natural chicken, but the environmental benefits of reducing antibiotic run-off is totally an added bonus.
The requirements to be labeled as USDA Organic also mean that the product is non-GMO- yes, that means that an organic item prohibits the use of any genetically engineered ingredient when certifying the product. To make this really clear, you can often find both the USDA Organic green seal and the Non-GMO Project seal together, just as Foster Farms has included on its packaging.
Here in the Bay Area, Foster Farms Organic Chicken also means a few extra benefits. Not only is it readily available at local grocery stores like Safeway, but it’s also grown here in California. Local chicken that’s easy to shop for? Love it.
We’ve loved partnering with Foster Farms and encourage you to try all our recipes with their organic chicken:
- Our most recent dish, Crispy Herbed Chicken Fingers with Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce is perfect for the whole family as a snack OR a meal.
- This Pumpkin Chicken Curry is a great year-round staple served over rice.
- Another dinner fave in my house: Creamy Lemon Chicken Pasta.
