I have a confession to make. In May I visited Alyssa in Japan and DIDN’T BRING A HOSTESS GIFT. What kind of monster am I? Sure, I brought a few goodies over from the US, but I’m a Very Firm Believer in a nice little token of thanks.
Next time I visit I’ll at least remember to buy a nice bouquet of flowers to brighten up her apartment, but what I REALLY would have brought is a jar or two of this super simple sugar scrub. Not only is it fun to make- it gives you the added benefit of feeling a little bit like a mad scientist! (Or it that just me?)
DIY Essential Oil Sugar Scrub
2 cups sugar
1 cup oil, plus an extra glug (I use grapeseed oil since it has a very light scent, but another option is extra light olive oil if you can’t find grapeseed.)
30-40 drops of essential oil (I used Lavender Essential Oil from Body Time in Berkeley, CA, but you can find a great variety on Amazon too!)
Combine sugar and oil together in a bowl, starting with just the one cup of oil. If you think the mix is a little dry (I couldn’t combine in a few teaspoons of sugar at the bottom of my bowl), add an extra glug of oil (about a tablespoon).
Once mixed together, add 30-40 drops of essential oil to the bowl. Of course, scale up or down if you like more/less scent.
Divide your scrub into separate containers. I love regular old jelly jars in the 4 oz size– the recipe fills up 4 1/2 of this size. (You can see the half jar in the picture below- I consider that the bonus jar I get to use!)
The jars came with a cute little label which I decided to use for this batch, but for a gift I’d tie on a tag with some pretty ribbon!
