Last year my Mom asked me if I could remember the order of the colors on the candy corn. It’s kind of a hard question, actually- the yellow always trips me up because according to my RAINBOW logic (the best kind of color logic), the yellow should be in the middle. I don’t spend much time thinking about candy corn- in my opinion it’s the Swedish Fish of Halloween candy. (Some people get upset when I’m mean about Swedish Fish. I’m sorry. Let’s still be friends?) Still, the candy itself is so reminiscent of the fall season and Halloween and I love incorporating the colors in decor this time of year.
These trivets are perfect for a Halloween party, for decorating a candy station or just for brightening up your dinner table. I’m putting together a gift pack for my Halloween-loving girlfriend’s annual party: two trivets wrapped up with a jar of candy corn. Easy and fun!
To make the trivets, you’ll need:
– two cork rounds (trivets)
– craft paint in white, yellow and orange
– painter’s tape
– foam paint brushes
First, tape off the trivets into roughly three sections. No need to be exact- in fact, I made the top third a bit smaller since the white section of candy corn is generally the smallest. Make sure that you tape from the inside out so the outer portions are exposed for painting, like so:
Paint the top section white and the bottom section yellow.
Before the paint gets too dry, remove the painter’s tape. Let dry.
Once dry, paint the center section orange. I just free-handed the edges using the flat tip of the foam craft brushes.
Once it’s dry, ta-da! You’re all set to go with your cute trivets!
CA weather doesn’t lend itself to cool, crisp days this time of year, but I’m excited to use these all October long to get me in the right frame of mind! Bring on the pumpkin spice, apple cider and Fun Size Milky Ways!
