While I was perusing the skin care section on Sephora online, I came across this fun little face mask by Korres. Sure, I could fork over $45 to buy that tiny jar. OR, I could make my very own moisturizing face mask at home.
The great thing about using an ingredient like Greek yogurt is that it’s natural, easy to pick up at the market with your every day groceries, and legitimately good for your skin. The yogurt contains lactic acid, a gentle exfoliator that will help to clean your pores. Along with the milk fat in the yogurt, adding honey (a natural humectant) helps to moisturize your skin. (And if you really want an extra punch of exfoliation, feel free to add a heavy squirt of fresh lemon juice. The Vitamin C and acids it contains will really slough off the surface of your face, but definitely exclude this addition if your face is sensitive. It has the potential to burn.)
- 2 tablespoons Greek yogurt (full fat)
- 1 teaspoon honey
- optional: one squeeze of lemon juice
- Combine yogurt and honey in a small dish (including lemon juice, if desired).
- Apply to face with fingertips or a wide brush.
- Leave on your face for 15 minutes.
- Remove with a warm water and a wet washcloth.
- I learned the brush trick from a facial a few years ago! It feels luxurious, helps to smooth the mask on your face and provides the most even coverage. This brush is an old foundation brush by Benefit, bought in a moment of weakness considering I don't wear foundation. (If you want to try this application technique, I found this inexpensive option with a similar shape!)

Would it be ok to leave it overnight?
Carla says
Hi Mirjam! I haven’t left it overnight because I’m certain it would start to smell since it’s dairy and I’m not sure there is any additional benefit. I admit that I’m not sure if there’s a reason not to leave overnight!

Hi will this help to make your face more smoother…and get rid of acne?

Can you save the leftovers in the fridge If you don’t use it all?
Carla says
Hi Ashley! I’ve never tried to store any leftovers, so I’m not quite sure! My instinct is that yogurt can be tricky with any other liquid ingredients mixed in, so I probably would steer clear.
Ashley says
I actually tried it and it does good in the fridge.

Hi,
Can this mask whiten?
Carla says
Hi Thuy! I’m not sure as I don’t use the mask for this, but I wouldn’t think it would whiten at all. Thanks for asking!

Yazmin says
How often do I apply the mask
Carla says
Hi Yazmin! I’ve never used it more than about twice a week. 🙂
Barb says
would it make a difference if you use raw honey, or will you get the same results just using any brand of honey?
Carla says
I have used both and haven’t noticed any difference! I’d recommend using whichever type you prefer. 🙂
Barb says
Since the mask is to moisturize your face, would there be any need to put anything else on your face after washing it off?
Carla says
Hi Barb! I feel like this would depend on your own skin, but I like to follow up with moisturizer after all my masks just to keep everything extra hydrated. I find that moisturizing right after keeps the hydration in- I use a face oil!
Barb says
Thanks Carla. This has been a great help

would it be okay to use agave instead of honey?
